Understanding the World

Jade class are always on an exciting mission, and our first topic was 'It's a Kind of Magic'.  This provided a wonderful setting for the children to explore their own areas of interest and make everything we do magical!

Then we went on an adventure 'Around the World', with 2 week mini topics on various countries around the globe.  We have visited Scotland, celebrating Scottish arts and culture, making our own McCoo style art in the style of Steven Brown, using printing techniques to create our own tartan. and rounded off with a raucous ceilidh with haggis and country dancing!

After that we visited China, exploring new year, the food, traditions, and the story of the Chinese zodiac. In design and technology we created Chinese dragon model puppets.  In Spain we tried flamenco dancing, sampled tapas and fruit sangria, explored the sculptures of Antoni Gaudi and created our own clay models decorated with 'egg shell' tiles.

And most recently we turned the classroom into a mad scientist's laboratory to conduct our experiments for Dr Frankenstein and bringing our own monsters to life!
