Literacy

In literacy, Red class have been exploring lots of different stories relating to our theme ‘Out of this World’ and have loved learning all about outer space. We have read lots of different stories such as ‘Whatever next’ by Gill Murphy, ‘The Smeds and the Smoos’ by Julia Donaldson and ‘how to catch a star’ by Oliver Jeffers. 
 

The children have enjoyed taking part in lots of fun activities linking to our space themed stories such as colourful semantics, story sequencing and even inventing their own planets! In Red class, we have been focusing on sentence writing and spelling along with practicing our cutting and sticking skills. We have also been developing our attention to detail as the children have described our stories with wonderful detail. The children have loved this topic and have really enjoyed our class stories.

Literacy - Autumn term

In literacy, Red class have been exploring lots of different stories relating to our Spring theme ‘Food glorious food’ and have really enjoyed this hands on topic. We have read lots of different stories such as ‘The lighthouse keeper’s lunch’ by Ronda and David Armitage, ‘The tiger who came to tea’ by Judith Kerr, and ‘Handa’s surprise’ by Eileen Browne. 
 

The children have enjoyed taking part in lots of fun activities linking to our food themed stories such as colourful semantics, story sequencing, reading comprehension and even exploring different types of food. In Red class, we have been focusing on sentence writing and spelling. The children have also begun practicing their use of capital letters and full stops. The children have loved this topic and have really enjoyed our class stories and activities. 

Over the Summer term in literacy, Red class are exploring many different stories relating to our Summer theme ‘Festivals and Carnivals’ where they will explore different celebrations, festivals and events from around the world. We will be reading many different stories including ‘The Scarecrows' Wedding’ by Julia Donaldson, ‘Celebrate with us’ by Valerie Wilding, and 'Kipper's Birthday' by Mick Inkpen'. In Red class, we will continue to focus on sentence writing, spelling and the use of capital letters and full stops in our writing.
