Play

The development of play and interaction skills is a huge part of each day in Ruby Class. We ensure there is ample time for child-led exploration as well as adult-led play activities to develop skills of joint attention, turn taking and learning how to use a variety of toys and objects functionally.

Every opportunity is taken to encourage children to develop their play skills at their own level, this may include parallel play with an adult or several children, associative play with toys and items or cooperative play and the skills of waiting, sharing and turn-taking. We have lots of interesting and engaging play activities set out for the pupils each morning, following their interests. It is lovely to see the pupils tolerating each other in their space more and even sometimes seeking one another out during play activities.
